Summer is a time to come out of hibernation, celebrate with family and friends, take road trips and jump in the waves at the beach. Our A-Z guide to summer will help you make the most of the warmer weather.
A is for A-League
Cheer on Adelaide United as they take to the pitch for the 2018–19 A-League season, looking to add another title to their trophy cabinet.

B is for barbecue
Invite a few friends around, fire up the barbecue, and chuck some snags, steaks or veggies on the grill.
C is for cricket
Summer is the perfect time to roll the arm over or hit some sixes, whether you’re in the park or at the beach. True cricket lovers will want to check out the action at Adelaide Oval this summer.
D is for daylight saving
The weather’s warmed up and the clocks have been re-set, giving you more daylight in the evening, so go for a stroll or hit up the beach.
E is for escape the heat
There are plenty of ways to stay cool when the mercury rises, whether it’s jumping in a friend’s pool or going to the movies.
Other options include visiting the South Australian Museum or Art Gallery of South Australia, which are both air-conditioned.
F is for fishing
Fetch a fishing rod, hook on some bait and cast a line off the riverbank or one of South Australia’s many jetties.
G is for going for a walk
The warm weather is a great opportunity to go for a walk. Take a hike along one of South Australia’s walking trails, such as the Hallett Cove Boardwalk or the Mannum Waterfalls.
H is for health
After enjoying the Christmas festivities you’ll want get back into your exercise regime, but did you know RAA members save on memberships at Goodlife?
I is for ice blocks
Nothing beats a cool, delicious ice block on a warm summer day. Try making your own with freshly squeezed juice and summer fruits such as mango, peaches and nectarines.
J is for jumping in the waves
Run down the sand and dive into the pristine water at one of Adelaide’s many metropolitan beaches. Looking for a more secluded beach? Visit Carrickalinga on the Fleurieu Peninsula, or Robe’s Long Beach.
K is for kicking back and listening to a podcast
Veg out on the couch and peruse the thousands of podcasts available for your enjoyment. There’s something for everyone, from politics and human interest to sport and comedy.
L is for lawn bowls
Play barefoot bowls on a balmy summer evening. Many South Australian lawn bowls clubs hold social bowls on week nights during summer.
M is for movies
An array of blockbusters will be released over summer, so grab some popcorn and make your way to the cinema.

N is for napping
Set up the hammock or lay down a blanket in the backyard and have a kip during the afternoon – you deserve it after another busy year.
O is for outdoor cinema
Pack a picnic and visit the Moonlight Cinema at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.
P is for picking strawberries
Take a drive through the Adelaide Hills to Beerenberg, near Hahndorf, and pick some sweet strawberries.
Q is for a quick getaway
Take a quick getaway to unwind and relax. Head up river, down to the beach or go camping in the Flinders Ranges.
R is for reading a book
Got a book sitting on the shelf that’s waiting to be read? Have some spare time over summer? Put your phone on silent, switch off the television and get stuck in.
S is for slip, slop, slap
Summer means higher UV rays, so make sure when you’re outside to slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat, slide on some sunnies and seek shade or shelter.
T is for taking a road trip
Get in your car and take an old-fashioned road trip. Drive up to the river or head across to Kangaroo Island for a few days. RAA members can save on ferry tickets to Kangaroo Island, as well as accommodation and activities.
U is for unearthing new recipes
Get in the kitchen and experiment with a few new recipes. Looking for some tips and tricks? RAA members save at Scoffed Cooking School when they purchase two or more tickets.
V is for visiting friends
Got a bit of spare time? Rekindle old friendships over a cup of coffee or a meal.
W is for water
It’s set to be a long, hot summer, so you’ll want to stay cool. Fill up some water balloons and have a water fight with family and friends, throw yourself down the slip ’n’ slide, run under the sprinkler or take a dip in the pool.
X is for…
We all know x is the hardest letter to create words with, so try it yourself with a game of Scrabble at home with the air conditioner cranking.
Y is for Yorke Peninsula
Drive over to the Yorke Peninsula for a couple of days. Stay at a shack, go for a swim, catch some fish, have a nap or read.
Z is for zoo
If you want to hear lions roar or see cheetahs run at top speed, spend the day at Monarto or Adelaide Zoo.
