6 great spots for a SA staycation

Your next escape could be just around the corner.

As travel restrictions put overseas holidays on the back burner for a while, now’s the perfect time to hit the road and explore South Australia.

And what better way to see our stunning regions than a weekend staycation?

From converted shipping containers to luxury eco-lodges, these locations will get you back in touch with nature without the hassle of pitching your own tent.

1. Rawnsley Park Station, Flinders Ranges

Overlooking the stunning Wilpena Pound, the eco-villas at Rawnsley Park Station are the perfect place to recharge your batteries.

The Flinders Ranges might be a slightly longer trek for those looking to escape just for the weekend, but these rentals are worth the drive.

Guests can take in breathtaking views from their very own private verandah and swimming pool, which is open during the warmer months.

You can even gaze at the sparkling night sky from the comfort of your bed, thanks to a retractable ceiling.

But it’s not just the views that’ll make your trip to Rawnsley Park one to remember.

The self-contained eco-villas boast fully equipped kitchens, luxurious bathrooms, spacious living areas and paintings by local artists.

And if you’re keen to discover the region’s wildlife, Rawnsley Park also offers smaller holiday units which provide the ideal base for exploring.

RAA members save up to 10% on a 2-night stay at Rawnsley Park Station.

2. Discovery Holiday Parks, Barossa

Just minutes away from the Tanunda city centre, Discovery Holiday Park’s safari tents allow couples to enjoy the Barossa wine region without having to spend big on a fancy bed and breakfast.

You’ll feel worlds away as the tents are set in a secluded area of the caravan park, with access to an outdoor lounge, firepit, heated swimming pool and spa.

Unfortunately for the kids, the safari tents are strictly adults-only, so book a babysitter and enjoy a night away in comfort.

3. Ecopia Retreat, Kangaroo Island

Situated on 150 acres of natural wilderness near Seal Bay, Ecopia Retreat offers the best of both worlds.

Feast your eyes on uninterrupted views of the neighbouring wildlife, as well as luxury facilities you’d normally find in lavish hotels.

The 2 bespoke villas feature a king-size bed each, as well as large freestanding baths, wood fireplaces and immersive panoramic views.

You can also book in a stay at the property’s 3-bedroom residence if you’re looking to bring some friends and family along for the trip.

There’s never been a better time to book a visit to Kangaroo Island and give back to the local community, after it was ravaged by the bushfires earlier this year.

4. CABN, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills

Scattered across secret locations in the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale, CABN’s eco-hideaways are ideal if you want to get off the grid for a well-deserved break.

The pint-sized cabins are designed to make you feel at one with nature, while providing all the luxuries you’ll ever need.

Guests are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing which tiny house to call home, with 5 unique CABNs dotted throughout South Australia.

The hideaways are suitable for small groups, whether you want to rediscover nature or enjoy a drink from some of the state’s best wineries.

In a bid to help guests totally disconnect from the outside world, the accommodation doesn’t come with Wi-Fi.

Sounds like heaven to us.

Getting a decent coffee can be a struggle when camping, especially when travelling off the beaten track.

That’s where the team at Container 65 in Kangarilla come in.

Saffy and Dom Osso opened the converted shipping container on their property right next door to their popular coffee roastery, Dawn Patrol.

Needless to say, you won’t have to search far and wide to get your caffeine hit.

You’ll also have the chance to get up-close and personal with the couple’s beloved farm animals, Dorothy the sheep and Alf the alpaca.

Guests can even cook up their own breaky in the container’s contemporary kitchen using fresh eggs sourced from the farm’s chooks.
