There’s been a beer boom in SA, with micro-breweries popping up all over the state. While there are plenty to choose from in the city and the regions, here are some of our favourite frothy spots.
1. Little Bang Brewing Company
Stepney, Adelaide
Award-winning Little Bang is the ultimate Friday beer o’clock spot, with dine-in bites the likes of burgers, chicken wings and fries and more than 50 beers to choose from.
You’ll have to come back to try a different brew each time, with the range including everything from experimental and seasonal, to crowd-pleasing classics. You can even take a brewery tour.
2. Watsacowie Brewing Company
Minlaton, Yorke Peninsula
Watsacowie welcomes both families and furry friends, with plenty of space in their shed-style brewery. Live music plays most weekends, and while there’s no in-house kitchen, they’re known to host guest chefs and cooks.
3. The Suburban Brew
Goodwood, Adelaide
With the philosophy of love thy neighbour, love their beer, The Suburban Brew is all about sharing an ale with a fellow local, creating conversation and a sense of community. Their taproom warehouse space and backyard lawn area on Goodwood Rd creates a relaxing environment to enjoy a craft brew, play pinball and chew the fat with mates (and your pooch). Aside from the yummy pints, kombucha by Gather Brewing is also on offer – perfect for designated drivers.
4. Loophole Brewing
Wangolina, Limestone Coast
Loophole brews are crafted in a brewhouse out the back of the stunning Cape Jaffa winery. You can taste a brew at the Cape Jaffa cellar door. The beer is made using water from a natural aquifer in the striking Limestone soils, with the Quick Hare Cape Ale and the Loophole Draught among the popular range.
5. Bond Store Wallaroo
Wallaroo, Yorke Peninsula
A restaurant, distillery and microbrewery all in one, Bond Store Wallaroo is a must visit on any Yorke Peninsula escape. Twelve brews are crafted on-site, all using local grain, for which the region is renowned. Plus, it’s housed in a renovated 150-year-old warehouse.
6. Kick Back Brewing
Aldinga, Fleurieu Peninsula
One of the newest breweries on the mid-coast block, Kick Back Brewing is a snazzy space on historic Old Coach Rd in Aldinga. Offering quirky bites, beer crafted right next door, local wines, spirits, and a buzzing atmosphere to boot, it’s the ultimate spot to kick back (pun intended) – oh yeah.
7. Smiling Samoyed Brewery
Myponga, Fleurieu Peninsula
Nestled just off the main drag in Myponga, overlooking the pretty-as-a-picture Myponga Reservoir, this brewery is the ultimate spot for a Sunday session. Taste a selection of their core beers, as well as special releases in their eclectic cellar door shed space, or outside on the deck. Order the brewer’s lunch and fill your belly with local delights including Buffalo chicken wings, pizza and more.
