QUIZ: What’s your intersection IQ?

Drivers have a big responsibility on the road; stick to the speed limit, remember to indicate, and don’t become distracted. Then there’s navigating roads – particularly intersections – and knowing when to go and when to wait your turn. That’s why we’ve created a quiz to test your intersection IQ. Good luck!

1. You’re in the red car travelling south along The Strand. When you reach the East Parkway intersection, you can see the blue car waiting to turn right and the yellow car indicating to turn right onto the continuation of East Parkway. Should you stop?*
- A. Yes. The correct order for cars to proceed is blue, yellow, red.
- B. it’s safest if the cars go in the order of yellow, red, blue.
- C. No, you’re on a continuing road. The correct order is red, yellow, blue.
2. You’re making a trip to Bunnings around the corner to buy some tools (you swear it’s not for the sausage sizzle). Coming off Heaslip Road, you’re in the red car and want to turn right onto Curtis Road. The blue car approaches from Curtis Road and prepares to turn right while the yellow car travels straight along Heaslip Road. What’s the correct order to navigate this intersection?*
- A. Blue makes the right-hand turn, yellow continues straight, and finally red can turn right.
- B. Red goes first, then yellow and then blue.
- C. Yellow continues, and then red can go, followed by blue.
3. You reach this intersection and see the blue car on Old Belair Road, which needs to pass through the intersection to continue to Russell Street. The yellow car wants to turn right on Old Belair Road. In what order should the cars proceed?*

5. Surf’s up! There’s a nice swell at Aldinga and you’re keen to catch some waves. Driving along High Street, you want to turn left at Aldinga Road. Up ahead, the cyclist is riding straight through the intersection in the bike lane. Meanwhile, the blue car indicates it wants to turn right onto Aldinga Road. If you can overtake the cyclist, you can turn first. Is that correct?*
- A. No, the correct order is cyclist, followed by the red car, then blue.
- B. Yes, a car has priority over a cyclist. The order is red car, followed by the cyclist, then the blue car.
