From long stretches of regional highway to our suburban backstreets, the condition of South Australia’s road network is about to come under the microscope with the release of RAA’s 2021 Risky Roads Survey next month.

This important community check-in gives RAA members and the wider South Australian community, the chance to share specific concerns, big or small, about infrastructure issues that make you feel unsafe on the road.

From potholes and stobie poles, to dodgy intersections, crumbling footpaths and poor signage, RAA Senior Manager of Safety and Infrastructure, Charles Mountain, says the survey will be a chance for members to shine a spotlight on the areas they know best.

Most importantly, your opinion counts.

“Member feedback in previous Risky Roads surveys has contributed to some big improvements on our state’s roads,” says Mr Mountain.

Since the 2019 Risky Roads Survey, about $300 million has been invested in repairing the top 10 nominated risky South Australian roads and intersections, in both metro and regional areas.

The Augusta Hwy was one of the top regional roads nominated in the 2019 survey, with members raising concerns about uneven surfaces and the lack of overtaking opportunities.

As a result, RAA advocated for repairs and road upgrades, and an additional $121 million has since been allocated to duplicate the highway between Port Wakefield and Lochiel in the state’s Mid North. On top of this, $12 million was assigned to rehabilitate the dodgy surface between Snowtown and Redhill.
