Getting stuck behind a car that’s going way under the speed limit can be frustrating.
But did you know driving too slowly could land you in hot water with the police in some cases?
While it’s not illegal to drive under the speed limit, driving abnormally slow without reason could see you hit with a fine.
So what would count as abnormally slow?
Simply driving a bit slower than the cars around you is fine, but according to the Australian Road Rules, a driver must not “unreasonably obstruct the path of another driver or a pedestrian”.
For example, driving 20km/h in an 80km/h zone without a suitable reason could land you in trouble with police.
Obstructing traffic by driving excessively slow could see you hit with a $125 fine plus a $60 Victims of Crime Levy.

Remember, it’s important to drive to the road conditions and designated speed limit.
If you’re travelling below the speed limit and notice traffic building up behind you, consider pulling over to allow other cars the chance to overtake.
