With just a few days left of Illuminate Adelaide, be quick to check out some amazing installations before it’s lights out.
The innovative festival of art, light, music and technology radiates all over South Australia, from Adelaide to the regions. If you haven’t witnessed the magic of this year’s program, take a sneak peek at some of the fun we got up to recently by hitting play below.
Start at Base Camp
New to Illuminate Adelaide is Base Camp at Victoria Square, which is fun for the whole family. Kids and big kids alike will have a blast ice-skating and be mesmerised by mindboggling installations at Electric Playground – and indoor lights display where you’re placed at the centre of the solar system as planets, moons and stars orbit around you.
Remember your time at Base Camp by posing for a photo with the luminescent penguins, angel wings and other bright lights displays in the Neon Village.
When you’re done, grab a drink and bite to eat at one of the delicious food vendors lining Base Camp. We tried the trio of tacos and, as you can see in the video, we enjoyed it.
Check out the freebies
The CBD comes alive with an eclectic collection of light installations and musical performances.
A Mirrored City shimmers as part of City Lights, a free-for-all-ages streetscape lighting up laneways, facades and open spaces.
Explore the North, East and West precincts nightly between 6pm and 11pm. All-access tours are available for select installations. We’ve featured a few free light installations here.
End on a light note
Of course, our night wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the runaway hit of last year’s program, Light Cycles in Adelaide Botanic Gardens.
Fusing nature and technology on a mesmerising walk set to a stirring soundscape, Light Cycles is reminiscent of an enchanted forest which has been overtaken by fireflies.
Nearby, a giant glowing tiger prowls the grounds at Adelaide Zoo as part of Light Creatures, a nocturnal adventure paying tribute to wildlife conservation.
There’s also still time to see the pandas tumble playfully along the grass, glowing giraffes bob their heads among the constellations and dancing jellyfish swim between a kaleidoscope of colourful coral.
Illuminate Adelaide has definitely brightened our winter. How about yours?
