The 2022 Adelaide Festival will showcase 71 events, including nine world premieres, six Australian premieres and 17 shows that are exclusive to Adelaide.
Among them is local contemporary circus powerhouse Gravity & Other Myths (GOM), who will wow audiences with dance, song and jaw-dropping stunts at the world-premiere of MACRO.
Opening the 2022 Adelaide Festival next month, GOM will join forces with Australian First Nations dance-theatre sensations, Djuki Mala, a mass choir and Scottish musicians for an electrifying and emotional performance.
The 30-strong circus troupe will showcase powerful and captivating storytelling alongside a large-scale projection and lighting display.
GOM Artistic Director and MACRO Director Darcy Grant says various groups have collaborated to create a highly skilled multicultural show.
“I think what GOM brings that you might not see elsewhere is this intangible connection and trust that you don’t really see in many other forms, coupled with an incredible First Nations dance company and Gaelic musicianship,” Darcy says.
“MACRO is about acknowledging waves and cycles much bigger than ourselves and the spirit of place, what was here before us and natural patterns of universe.”
Calling the honour of opening the Adelaide Festival a “pinch yourself moment”, Darcy says the crew is excited to showcase their hard work and are rapt to hear the event sold out in just days.
As for Darcy’s pick of the Adelaide Festival?
“In all honesty it all looks so incredible, I think my pick personally would be The Rite of Spring the Pina Bausch work, I’d love to see that,” he says.
For those who’ve missed out tickets, the live stream of MACRO will be shown at specific theatres and cinemas across regional SA through Country Arts South Australia.
