With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to put our mums, grandmothers and other important women in our family lives, to the fore. And what better way to show your appreciation and love than with one of our state’s incredible food and wine experiences?
From tastings and tours to lunches and luxe dining, here are 7 of our top picks for Mother’s Day in 2021*.
*Word for the wise: this annual celebration is a popular one, so be sure to enquire about availability in advance. If you’re having trouble booking something on the actual day, perhaps stretch out the celebrations by booking your outing for a different day or give one these experiences as a gift for mum to enjoy in her own time.

1. Tour magnificent Maxwell Wines
One of McLaren Vale’s many prized wineries, Maxwell Wines overlooks a picturesque vineyard valley and features a recently refurbished tasting space and popular restaurant.
The winery offers a range of experiences for wine and food lovers, from gourmet picnics on the grounds to heritage tours of the site followed by a degustation lunch.

2. Taste on the Torrens
Gliding along the River Torrens in the famous Popeye is about as quintessentially ‘Adelaide’ as experiences come. But add in a splash of local gin, and you have yourself a real South Aussie celebration.
The 1.5 hour Popeye tour with KI Spirits gin will give you and mum (and whatever lucky guests you bring along with you) a taste of 3 of the flagship gins in their range. You’ll also sample some local snacks along the journey.
RAA member exclusive: You can save 10% on ticket prices for the tour. While they’re booked out for Mother’s Day, you could book mum in for the Thursday or Friday and beat the crowds.
3. Get a taste of luxury in the Adelaide Hills
The Adelaide Hills is bursting with exciting wine, beer, cheese and chocolate experiences. It’s also one of the closest foodie regions to the city, making it the perfect day-trip destination for mum this Mother’s Day.
Now, how does a private, chauffeured tour of the best food and wine in the Hills sound? Pick your own itinerary or let Hills Luxury Day Tours decide. Trust us, you’ll have brownie points from mum for a while with this one.
4. Tasty Tawny in the Barossa Valley
One of Seppeltsfield’s most popular tours is their ‘Taste your birth year’ experience.
The 30-minute tour involves tasting Seppeltsfield’s Tawny from your birth year, straight from the barrel.
Seppeltsfield also offer a variety of other experiences, such as the Centenary Tour and the Village Discovery Tour, depending on what your mum or the significant woman in your life might fancy.

5. Dining delight in charming Clare
Treat mum to a dining experience she’ll not soon forget at Slate Restaurant at Pike Wines.
Awarded ‘top cellar door with best food’ by Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine in 2020, the restaurant has been solidifying its place as one of Clare Valley’s premier dining destinations for some time now.
French-influence with regional ingredients, the menu here changes regularly depending on what’s in season. Sip Pikes wines and beers as you go

6. Sip wine in the suburbs
If your Mother’s Day weekend is packed with family activities, and you have a little less time to head out to the regions, why not send mum for a week-day sample of local wine in the suburbs instead?
Signature Wines cellar door is situated in the heart of bustling Norwood, just a hop, skip and a jump from the city centre. Treat mum to a wine and cheese tasting in their urban cellar door and then head out onto The Parade for a spot of shopping.
RAA member exclusive: Save 10% on wine and cheese tastings at Signature Wines.
7. Immerse yourself in flavours on Kangaroo Island
If you’d like to take mum a little further afield this Mother’s Day, or celebrate someone special in your life, Kangaroo Island is a treat at any time of year.
To make the most of it, head out on a day tour with the folks from Exceptional Kangaroo Island. Their luxury ‘Fine Flavours’ full day food and wine tour will have you start out on farmland learning about the agricultural and farming culture of the island.
Throughout the day you’ll visit and taste from a range of producers – sip spirits, sample olives, savour some honey and indulge in a wine tasting. There’s even an alfresco lunch to break up the day of touring and tasting.
This tour is available Saturdays, so why not make a weekend of it on the island?
