Set in the middle of a wheat field, Murphy’s Haystacks are ancient, wind-worn pillars and boulders of pink granite that are millions of years old. The Haystacks are one of the most photographed locations on the Eyre Peninsula. Bring your camera.
During the winter months, you can sit back and watch southern right and humpback whales in some of SA’s most gorgeous coastal surrounds. The best place to catch all the action for free is from the viewing platforms at the Head of Bight Visitor Centre. Here, you could see more than 100 whales putting on a show beneath the Bight’s mighty cliffs.
You lower yourself into the water, and before you know it you’re face-to-face with the razor-sharp teeth of the world’s biggest predatory fish, the great white shark. If this sounds like fun then maybe you should go cage diving at the Neptune Island Marine Park and get up close and personal with these wild beasts. If you’re looking for something a little bit tamer, go snorkelling with sea lions and watch as they somersault and twirl in the water around you.

The Eyre Peninsula is famous for its fishing industry, making it the perfect place for foodies on the hunt for the best quality seafood. Port Lincoln’s Fresh Fish Place will give you a behind-the-scenes look at a seafood processing factory, before you taste a huge range of world-famous Eyre Peninsula seafood.
Set among gum trees and scrub, Mikkira Station is the perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Visitors to the station, south-west of Port Lincoln, can stay for the day or set up camp. You might also want to go bird watching or try to spot the koalas that call Mikkira home.
Surrounded by red sand hills, Lake Gairdner – Australia’s fourth-largest salt lake – is a popular location for photographers and filmmakers. The beautiful salt lake, north of the Eyre Peninsula, offers picturesque views, even more-so when it’s dry. The blindingly white salt offers a sharp contrast to the ochres and reds of the landscape surrounding the lake. If you’re looking for adrenaline-pumping action, visit in March when the annual Dry Lake Racers event is on and watch car enthusiasts try to break the land-speed record.
