Who says kids are the only ones who can have fun when the final bell rings to mark the end of another school year? Unleash your inner child and join the youngsters as the summer good times kick off.
1. Let the little ones cook for you
What’s for dinner, kids? That sounds like a dream, but it can be your reality. Here’s how: book your crew into a cooking class at Scoffed School of Food and Fun to pick up some cooking basics, plus broaden their understanding of different cultures and tastes.
Children as young as five years old can learn how to create simple savoury or sweet dishes from a range of countries, while older kids can try trickier recipes.
Why adults will love it: Even a night or two off from cooking dinner sounds pretty good to us. So does saving 10% on Scoffed cooking classes these school holidays. RAA members can get discounted tickets here.
2. Throw a (fully catered) party
Ice cream, playground, a visit to the museum and singing along to karaoke in a swanky limousine – sounds like the type of party anyone would love an invitation to.
The entire day is organised by Juggle House Experiences, which hosts a range of guided tours around regional South Australia including a Kiddies Cruise. Explore the Murray River, Lakes and Coorong region in a 10-seat chauffeured Mercedes limousine featuring three LCD televisions and surround sound.
Make pit-stops across the region, including at Mannum Waterfalls Nature Reserve and various local playgrounds.
Stock the mini bar (water or fruit juice for the kids, of course) and take in the sights without any hassles.
Why adults will love it: Feel like an Uber driver carting the little ones from party-to-party? Thankfully this time, you can just sit back and enjoy the ride and save money. How? RAA members save 10% on Juggle House Experiences’ Kiddies Cruise.
3. Climb trees like the good old days
Who said climbing trees was only fun when you were a kid? It looks a little different these days though.
Today, you can take to the treetops at TreeClimb Adelaide – a sprawling aerial adventure park bordering Adelaide’s CBD.
Featuring eight courses and more than 70 obstacles (including courses specifically designed for kids), thrill-seekers of all ages can safely swing, leap, climb and fly through the trees.
Why adults will love it: You’re going to need energy and adrenaline to make it through the school holidays this summer. Need a reason to take the leap of faith? RAA members can save 15% on all bookings at TreeClimb Adelaide.
4. Indulge in wine (or cordial) and cheese
Wine and cheese pair well together, but have you ever tried cordial and cheese?
During the school holidays, kid-friendly Kimbolton Wines Cellar Door in Langhorne Creek offers a tasting experience with a twist. While you sip responsibly on delicious drops and nibble cheese, the little ones will taste different cordials and indulge in a grazing platter of their own.
Each child also receives an activity pack and pencils, but rest assured kiddos, you’re not back at school just yet. In fact, the only test you’ll face at Kimbolton Wines is who can guzzle cordial the quickest.
Once the cordial wears off, head to the winery’s grassed area and play a variety of lawn games which the whole family can enjoy. Grab a bean bag or picnic blanket and settle in for the afternoon. You can even bring the family dog.
Why adults will love it: Cheese and wine. Need we say more? RAA members save 5% on a Kids Flight experience at Kimbolton Wines Cellar Door.
5. Get lost in Mintaro Maze
Ever felt like telling the kids to get lost? Mintaro Maze is probably one of the only appropriate places to say just that.
The Clare Valley’s living hedge maze, which comprises more than 800 conifers, features fountains, twists and turns to trick visitors. Once you find your way out, there are giant games to keep both kids and adults entertained.
See for yourself. RAA members can get discounted tickets to Mintaro Maze.
Why adults will love it: Coffee – you can’t get through school holidays without that caffeine hit. Stop by Mintaro Maze’s coffee shop for your fix. If coffee isn’t your thing, did we mention there are wineries nearby? We’ll leave you on that note.
