Helping the community through sponsorship is important to our members, an RAA survey has revealed. More than 90% of members said yes to RAA supporting community groups. Here are just four ways we’re doing just that through our community sponsorship program.
1. CanTeen
Supporting kids in need was one of the key areas members wanted to support. So, this month, RAA has renewed its partnership with the charity organisation CanTeen, which provides kids affected by cancer with the opportunity to meet each other and engage in various fun activities.
RAA’s Community Sponsorship program helps 40 youngsters from regional centres attend these programs held in Adelaide by paying for their transport, accommodation and meals.
In November, we spoke to student Tarsh Wakefield, who travels all the way from the mid-north to the city to participate in CanTeen programs – head here to read her story.
2. New Year’s Eve shuttle bus
Road safety initiatives were top of the member rankings and an area RAA has supported through sponsorship over many years. This includes our funding of the New Year’s Eve shuttle bus, transporting revellers between the Harbour Town car park and festivities at Glenelg.
This New Year’s Eve will be the 6th consecutive partnership between RAA and the City of Holdfast Bay. In that time, patronage of the free RAA Park and Ride shuttle has doubled to more than 1200.
3. Metropolitan Fire Service
We support the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service’s Road Awareness Program, which teaches high school students across the state about the potentially traumatic consequences of poor choices when it comes to using the roads.
4. Regional Safety Grants
RAA also has a sponsorship program designed to improve safety in regional communities.
The annual Regional Safety Grants provide funds of up to $10,000 per recipient and, as a result of these grants, CFS units were able to buy firefighting equipment last year.
Funds were also used to provide resources to Surf Life Saving Clubs and schools.
We do so much more than this – stay tuned on samotor to read about all of the other ways we support the SA community.
