Love is in the air and cupid’s making his way to SA. You may spot him with his bow and arrow on one of these 3 unique dates.
Go for a stroll… with an alpaca
Fact: alpacas are herd animals who are known to become sick when they’re lonely. So, what better time to keep these cuddly creatures company than on the most loved-up day of the year?
One place you can do just that is at Softfoot, a privately-owned marsupial sanctuary in Hindmarsh Valley, near Victor Harbor.
Admire the alpacas by exploring the farm’s 600 acres in an ATV buggy or, better yet, venture out on foot and take one for a walk. Just picture it: walking hand-in-hand with your loved one and an alpaca alongside. Surely that beats a romantic stroll on the beach.
Ideal date: Book a 2-hour alpaca tour at Softfoot to learn all about these cute animals, explore the property’s shearing shed and enjoy homemade morning tea.
Shuck oysters with your sweetheart
Italian adventurer and ladies’ man Casanova claimed to eat 50 oysters for breakfast every day.
Whether truth or myth, one thing’s for sure – oysters are tastiest when you shuck them yourself, and you can do just that during an oyster farm tour at Coffin Bay.
Wander out into the water with your other half and pluck the tasty morsels straight out of the sea, before oyster farmer Ben Catterall gives you a lesson on how to shuck them.
Ideal date: Pair your Coffin Bay Oyster Farm Tour shucking class with a glass of Riesling and a seafood platter for two while you’re seated at a table right in the water. Disclaimer: This is definitely a dining experience of a different kind and, as mouth-watering as oysters are, try to resist the urge to down 50 in one sitting.
Explore an island paradise
Love may get the heart racing, but an action-packed weekend on Kangaroo Island will get your blood pumping and stomach fluttering just as much.
Extend your Valentine’s Day by exploring Australia’s third-largest island for a few days. Try sandboarding or tobogganing your way down the sandy slopes at Little Sahara, or hopping into a two-person kayak to paddle the Harriet River. You can also quadbike around the island for another scenic route – plus, it’s the perfect excuse to hold your loved one tight.
Ideal date: Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action has a range of great activities that are ideal for couples. Find out more here.
